2018 Hart
Family Murders
The Hart murders were a
murder–suicide carried out
by Jennifer and Sarah Hart on March
26, 2018, when they intentionally
drove their GMC Yukon XL off a 100‑foot
cliff on California State Route 1 near
Westport, Mendocino County, killing
themselves and their six adopted children.
The case became one of the most scrutinized
child‑abuse failures in recent U.S. history.
Jennifer Hart was driving the family’s SUV with her wife
Sarah in the passenger seat and their six children—Markis
(19), Hannah (16), Devonte (15), Abigail (14), Jeremiah
(14), and Ciera (12)—in the back. The vehicle went over a
cliff and landed upside down on a rocky beach below.
