Anastasia,
Umberto:
(September 26, 1902 - October 25,
1957) Umberto Anastasia otherwise
known as Albert Anastasia was the
boss of the Gambino Crime Family
from 1951 until 1957. He was born in
Tropea, Calabria, Italy and moved to
New York in 1919. He also ran a
group of contract killers known as
Murder, Inc. Anastasia was
nicknamed the "Mad Hatter" and "Lord
High Executioner." On the morning of
October 25, 1957, Anastasia entered
the barber shop of the Park Sheraton
Hotel, now known as
Park Central
Hotel, on 56th Street and
7th Avenue in New York City.
Anastasia's bodyguard parked the car
in an underground garage and then
decided to take a little stroll
leaving Anastasia unprotected as he
got his haircut. As Anastasia
relaxed in the barber chair, two men
rushed in, shoved the barber out of
the way, and fired shots at
Anastasia. After the first few
shots, Anastasia allegedly lunged at
his killers; however, little did
Anastasia realize he was actually
lunging at the gunmen's reflections
in the wall mirror of the barber
shop. The gunmen continued firing
and Albert Anastasia finally fell to
the floor, dead. The Albert
Anastasia murder case officially
remains unsolved. Albert is buried
in
Green-Wood
Cemetery in Brooklyn, New
York, in Section 39, Lot 38325.
Anthony,
Caylee:
(August 9, 2005 - June 2008) Caylee
Anthony was a young girl who at the
center of a nationwide search when
she disappeared. It was noted that
her mother, Casey Anthony, failed to
disclose that her daughter had been
missing for over a month. The last
time Caylee Anthony was seen was
June 15, 2008; however, she was not
reported missing until July 15,
2008. Caylee's grandmother, had
reported her missing after her
daughter would not tell her where
Caylee has been. On December 11,
2008, skeletal remains were found
less than a mile from the Anthony
home and was were later confirmed by
medical examiner, Dr. "G" Jan
Garavaglia, to be those of Caylee
Anthony. Identification was based on
direct DNA identification.
Casey Anthony was indicted on
October 14, 2008, for her
first-degree murder. The official
cause of death was "homicide by
undetermined means." The
remains of Caylee Anthony were
cremated and the location of the
ashes are in an undisclosed
location.
Baxter, John
Clifford:
(September 27, 1958 - January 25,
2002) Cliff Baxter was a former
executive caught up in the whirlwind
of chaos surround the demise of the
energy giant, Enron Corporation. Mr.
Baxter was besides himself and
fought with former Enron Chief
Executive Officer, Jeffrey Skilling,
about the daily practices of the
corporation. He sold large
quantities of Enron stock shortly
before the company announced plans
to enter bankruptcy. He offered to
testify before Congress regarding
the Enron case; however, before he
got the opportunity to do so, Mr.
Baxter, conveniently committed
suicide in his Mercedes-Benz parked
on a street closed to his residence
in Sugarland, Texas. The Harris
County Medical Examiner found the
cause of death to be suicide by a
“penetrating gunshot to the head.”
Mr. Baxter used a.38 caliber
revolver which was found in his car,
next to his body. John
Clifford Baxter is buried in
Amityville Cemetery in Suffolk
County, New York.
Carson,
Eve:
(November 19,
1985 - March 5, 2008) Eve Carson was
a vibrant and talented young woman,
who was a student at the University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
where she majored in
Political Science and Biology and
was eagerly pursuing a pre-medicine
career path.
In addition to her studies, Eve was
the Student Body President of her
class and was also on the
university's board of trustees. Eve
was tragically murdered on March 5,
2008, after she was kidnapped from
her local campus rental house and
robbed, and was then shot multiple
times in the head and body with a
semi-automatic pistol and sawed-off
shotgun. Her body was discovered at
the
intersection of Hillcrest Circle and
Hillcrest Drive in Chapel Hill
around 5 AM.
Two
weeks later, police apprehended two
suspects,
Demario James Atwater and Laurence
Alvin Lovette Jr., in connection
with her death. The two suspects
were identified on bank surveillance
cameras using Eve's ATM card at
several banks in the Chapel Hill
area. Atwater and Lovette are facing
state and federal charges, including
murder, kidnapping, armed robbery,
and carjacking, in connection with
her death. Eve Carson is buried at
First United Methodist Church in her
hometown of Athens, Georgia.
